bioGraphic is a beautiful multimedia magazine created to showcase the wonder of nature and the most promising approaches to sustaining life on Earth.

Powered by the California Academy of Sciences, our stories spark conversations, shift perspectives and inspire new ideas, helping not only to shed new light on our planet’s most pressing environmental challenges, but also to solve them.

Through an ever-evolving array of photographic stories and films,
bioGraphic introduces you to some of the world’s most intriguing creatures and inspiring people. It transports you to faraway places, enabling you to experience what it's like to be there and what's at stake for those involved.

Along the way,
bioGraphic takes a critical look at the environmental issues that pose the greatest threats to our future – and the most promising ideas for addressing them.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

bioGraphic is looking for strange and beautiful portraits of biodiversity, unexpected and surprising discoveries, mind-blowing innovations and ideas to help sustain life on Earth.

Editor Steven Beddard is looking for well-rounded photo stories with a clear and purposeful narrative and single images that illustrate the beauty, complexity, and breathtaking qualities of the natural world – and the promise and challenge inherent in our efforts to sustain it.
Subject matter might include:
  • Unseen or beautiful views of the world’s ecosystems and species
  • The fragility of organisms and ecosystems, but also the resilience of the natural world
  • The interconnectedness of organisms, ecosystems and human societies
  • Mind-blowing innovations and ideas for sustaining life on Earth
  • Inspiring stories about biodiversity science and sustainability from the field
  • Unexpected and exciting discoveries about the natural world
  • Human-interest driven profiles of change-makers, innovators and unsung heroes

Fair and competitive fees are paid for all images published ($250 for a single image, $1,000 for a 10-picture story). In general, bioGraphic seeks non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, syndication rights for pre-existing material and right of first publication for commissioned works. Other arrangements will be made on a case-by-case basis.
